Let me tell you about Alec, my seven year-old son. Like many young children, he has asthma, allergies and eczema. To treat these chronic conditions he takes five prescription drugs – Zyrtec antihistamine, Zaditor eye drops (now over-the-counter!), Advair discus for his asthma, Nasonex for night time breathing, and Triamcinilone cream for the eczema, plus occasional Albuteral and Elidil. Thankfully, these prescriptions help us manage his conditions and keep his symptoms under control.
These drugs are very expensive. Advair, for example, retails for $194.00 per month at my local Rite-Aid Pharmacy. Last year, I learned first hand that if you don’t have insurance, you pay $194.00, but if you have insurance, Rite-Aid discounts Advair to between $144 and $148, depending on the insurance company. I understand that large insurance companies negotiate big discounts because they are buying in bulk on behalf of their members, but this didn’t seem fair to me. I knew that they were charging insured customers 25% less than the uninsured customers. Why should people least able to afford their prescriptions, the uninsured, pay so much more than people with insurance?
I started PS Card to fix this problem. With my PS Card, I can buy Alec’s Advair at the same local Rite-Aid Pharmacy for $148.00 by simply showing it to the pharmacist when I pay for his prescription. I save similar amounts on all of Alec’s drugs with my PS Card.
Can PS Card help you? Can it help your Alec or your Alexandra? If you are paying full retail prices for your prescriptions, I know that PS Card can save you money and help you afford the drugs that you and your family need. I hope we can help you and your family stay healthy. That’s why I started PS Card.
