James Robbins is co-Founder and President of ApotheCard Inc., a consumer-directed prescription drug savings card company. With a wealth of experience in the healthcare industry, and faced with the personal family challenge of having a child with a chronic health condition, Robbins and his wife Susan established a company that would allow uninsured and other self-paying consumers enjoy significant savings on much needed prescription drugs.

A healthcare economist with 25 years’ experience in health policy analysis, outcomes research, and pharmaceutical marketing, Robbins knew there had to be a way to help people who have the most difficulty getting their critical medications. He knew that people who pay cash for their prescriptions pay the highest prices and believed that they should not have to pay so much more than people with insurance. In 2006, he launched ApotheCard and the company’s primary product/service -- PS Card.   Through the PS Card service and, consumers save an average of 45% off the retail price of prescription drugs at more than 55,000 pharmacies coast to coast.

Prior to establishing ApotheCard and PS Card in 2006, Robbins held leadership positions with Thomson/Medstat and UnitedHealth Group, as well as several consumer-centric healthcare start-up companies.  Over the course of two decades, Jim has distinguished himself through his focus on empowering the consumer to effectively navigate the evolving and challenging healthcare system. He has developed a wide-reaching network of contacts in healthcare provider organizations, internet health insurance and health care shopping web sites, pharmacy chains, banks and trade organizations, and this network has been critical to the success of PS Card, which today serves hundreds of thousands of members who enjoy the same price break on generic and name brand drugs as big insurance companies.

Robbins holds an MA in Applied Economic Analysis and a BA in Economics and Geography.  He is well respected for his strategic planning, economic forecasting and analysis, product development and marketing aptitudes. Mr. Robbins has co-authored health services and outcomes research articles for the Journal of Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, the Journal of Health Economics, and the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy.

An experienced presenter, Robbins has participated as a panelist and speaker at numerous national conferences on consumer-directed healthcare, pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research.  He has also been a featured speaker before several pharmaceutical-sponsored educational advisory boards representing key opinion leaders from the physician community.

Robbins currently resides in Carpinteria, California with Susan and their three children.
